How to take care of your jewellery
The jewellery is forever, but metal can mature and change just like people. We want to share some advice so that your jewellery would stay shiny as new for longer.
Scratches and change of colour of metal can appear as a result of your lifestyle.
- To decrease the risk of an item to be scratched avoid contact with hard materials (metals, stones, hard plastics, sand).
- Remove your jewellery before exercising, swimming, sauna, cooking, lifting weights, or cleaning your home.
- Keep your pieces in a fabric bag in a dark and dry place when not in use.
How to clean your jewellery at home
1. Mix together some liquid soap, 34 drops of 3% ammonia solution (available in pharmacies), add some warm water.
2. Let the piece soak in this solution for 5 minutes.
3. Using a brush or a soft toothbrush, clean the piece
4. Rinse the piece with water and wipe dry with a clean soft cloth. Don’t use paper: it can leave scratches.
Silver
Sterling silver oxidises naturally by contacting with air, liquids, and skin.
Use a polishing cloth to bring the original silver shade. If the oxidation is too strong, wet the polishing cloth with a silver cleaning solution and wipe the discoloured parts. Don’t soak the pieces in the silver cleaning solution: this can damage parts made of other materials, e.g., pearls, gemstones, enamel, etc. After cleaning, rinse your jewellery with water to remove the remaining cleaner.
9k gold
Gold isn’t prone to oxidising. If you notice change of colour of your gold piece, contact us for professional cleaning.
Gold plating
A coat of gold applied on sterling silver or brass. Its top layer tarnishes naturally (you’ll see silver or brass underneath). We can’t say how long the vermeil will last: this depends on which body part you wear the piece on and how often.
